JEWELLERY CARE INSTRUCTONS

GOLD VERMEIL JEWELLERY

Gold vermeil is a layer of gold plated over sterling silver. ORAÏK jewellery uses 24k gold vermeil with a thickness of 5 microns.

While vermeil jewellery is more affordable than solid gold, it is more delicate and requires special care. To help preserve the gold colour of your vermeil jewellery, please follow the instructions below.

WEAR WITH CARE

Remove your vermeil jewellery in the following situations:

  • Before showering or bathing. Avoid exposing vermeil to water, especially salt water and chlorinated water, which can accelerate tarnishing and wear of the plating. If your jewellery accidentally gets wet, rinse it gently with fresh water, pat dry with a soft, dry cotton cloth, and let it fully air-dry before storing.
  • During intense manual activity (e.g. washing dishes, gardening, sports, gym), as friction and knocks can scratch or wear the plating.
  • When applying perfume, lotion, sunscreen, or hairspray. Chemicals, moisture, and acidic environments can react with metals and affect their appearance. Apply products first and wait until they are completely dry before putting on your jewellery.
  • Before sleeping, to prevent unnecessary friction, bending, or snagging.

HOW TO STORE YOUR JEWELLERY

Vermeil jewellery should not be exposed to direct sunlight or humid environments (e.g. bathrooms), which can accelerate oxidation and tarnishing over time.

Store each piece individually to prevent scratches and tangling—ideally in a soft pouch or a jewellery box for everyday storage. For long-term storage, place the jewellery in an airtight zip-lock bag to help protect it from humidity and tarnishing. Ensure the piece is completely dry before sealing.

Please note: our ORAÏK boxes are designed for shipping and presentation and are not airtight, so they are not ideal for long-term storage.

HOW TO CLEAN VERMEIL JEWELLERY

Gently wipe your vermeil jewellery with a soft, dry cotton cloth after wearing. Avoid chemical cleaners, dips, polishing cloths meant for solid metals, and soaps, as they can damage the plating.

If dirt is hard to remove, you may rinse the piece briefly in lukewarm water and then dry it thoroughly with a soft cloth. Avoid doing this often, and always ensure the jewellery is completely dry before storing.

RENEW THE GOLD PLATING

Although we use high-quality plating services, vermeil pieces are naturally more prone to wear over time. How quickly the gold layer fades depends on factors such as friction, environment, skin pH, sweat, and skincare products.

If your jewellery has lost its gold colour, contact us to enquire about our replating service. We offer gold-plating renewal at cost price (plus shipping), with no additional fees.

SOLID GOLD JEWELLERY

Solid gold jewellery can last a lifetime with proper care. We recommend removing gold rings during intense manual activities where abrasion or impact is likely—unless you’re happy for natural marks to develop as part of the piece’s character.

To clean solid gold, use mild soap, warm water, and a soft toothbrush. Rinse well, dry with a soft cotton cloth, and store each piece individually in a jewellery box or pouch.

ENAMEL JEWELLERY

Many ORAÏK pieces are decorated with vitreous enamel. This traditional technique fuses powdered glass to a metal base by firing at high temperatures. The result is a delicate glass layer with vibrant, glossy colour.

MOST IMPORTANTLY

  • Due to the fragile nature of enamel, avoid dropping it or knocking it against hard surfaces. Impact may cause enamel to crack, chip, or break.
  • Do not bend or warp the jewellery out of shape.
  • Store enamel jewellery individually in a protective jewellery box or pouch to avoid scratches and impact.
